Name the Pet is a Stockholm based producer/songwriter creating electronic pop music with playful productions inspired by everything from British club music anno 2000 to early Sade and Antonio Carlos Jobim. On the 5th of April 2019, she released her third full length album Än, and received great reviews in both Swedish and international media.
“You know when a car passes in London and you hear some really nice beat playing from the open car window, that’s the vibe I was going for with ‘Radion lovar regn’”, says Name the Pet referring to the first song on the album. The song’s UK garage inspired beat is combined with warm strings and Name the Pet’s soothing voice, singing us a melody that almost sounds like a Swedish lullaby.
The album was written and produced by Name the Pet and co-produced by fellow female producer Linn Fijal, mixer/engineer at legendary studio Riksmixningsverket.
Name the Pet’s story started in 2009 when, at the age of 22, she was signed by EMI and put in songwriting sessions with male producers to create her debut album. The self-titled album was released in the same year and was very well received. However, Name the Pet was already sick of the male dominated industry and said goodbye to her record label only two years later. She was determined to gain control of her own creativity and knew that music production was her key to freedom. When she returned with the follow up album Future/Now in 2014, she showed up with an entirely new sound. By then all of the music was written, produced and released by herself. Since then Name the Pet has played a part of creating the community that is the emerging scene of female producers in Stockholm. In addition to writing/producing, she is also one of the founders of ⌘J – a Stockholm based supportive group/community for women, in one way or another, connected to the music industry.
